PLEURO-PNEUMONIA.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— -The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company being largely interested in station property, and therefore in the questions now agitating the public mind concerning pleuro-pneumonia, we have taken measures to obtain reliable information from competent judges concerning inoculation, specially as to whether any evil effects result from it, either to the beasts operated on, or to the herds of which they may form part. The gentlemen to whom we applied for their ( pinions were, Mr Alexander Bruce, Chief Inspector of Stock, New South Wales, and Messrs. Wilkinson Graves, Minchin and Lavender, Stock and Station Agents, Sydney, Wagga Wagga, and Hay, New South. Wales, the authority and weight of whose opinions are beyond all doubt. The questions submitted were, Ist, "Will inoculation on an otherwise perfectly healthy beast, make such beast a medium for spreading the complaint f" And 2nd, " Is it considered in Australia that cattle inoculated should not be bred from, but simply fattened for market ?" The reply in each case was a decided and emphatic negative, with an expression of surprise that the contrary had even been supposed possible. — I am &c, Feedk Battley, Secretary N.Z.L., and M.A. Co., L. Auckland, 29th April, 1880.
