WAIMATE PLAINS. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.] (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) OEO, Yesterday.
The camp at Oeo "frill shift to-morrow or next day. Tumiroa is near To Whiti'a f-acred portion. The Constabulary at Werekino v/ill move south simultaneously with the *hift north of the Oeo division. The natives report that Mr Paras visited the luithes engaged in building and forming a settlement at Taikatu on Friday. He did not see the men, and the ay omen ay ho were m the hou^e, already finished, said they were all at work, but they could give no infoimation as to their whereabouts. Mr. L'ariis then told the people they mu-t uo inland to the 7e-erve appointed foi them, the front of which is cut. The women '-aid f hey should not g'>, and t id\ib'd Sir Parn^, if he had anything- to b iy, t > go to Parihaka and s:iy it, as that was their only talking place. Mr Pan is told them their effoits were all in vain, and if they did not go quietly, he *hou*tl go to Hawera and telegraph for some ."oldieis to take them prisoners. The natives t-aid th.it was of no consequence, and Mr Parris left and went to another, but older settlement, atOfcakeho He told the natives to ehir'fc on to the reserve, but with a like result.
The Position. It ought now to be evident to the Government and all coiicmed, that nothing can be done, unless To Whijfci in consulted or taken prisoner.-*. In the event of these natives now engaged in building-, in defiance of the Government, being 1 taken prisoner, that will not deter the others from following their example, and thus we have a choice of two things, either to take the whole of the natives of the Plains, pr^oners in detail, or go to Parihaka and deal with Te Whiti peaceable or otherwise
