THE OUTBREAK OF Pleuro-Pneumonia.
The Swamp Company's Cattle. Yesterday Messrs Michie and Naden, M.R.C.V.S.L., with Inspector Runciman, paid a visit of inspection to the Woodlands Station of the Swamp Company's estate. They were met by Captain Steele and Mr Reynolds (manager), by whom arrangements had been made for slaughtering and examining the beasts. Suitablb stockyards had been erected, and every facility was rendered towards the carrying out of the inspection. Six animals were destroyed, and Mr Michie expressed himself satisfied that they were affected with the disease. Mr Naden reports that the cattle are somewhat improved in appearance since his last visit, Mr Reynolds having shot a number of animals which in his opinion were iv an advanced stage of the disease.
Mr Burkes Cattle. On Thiirsday Messrs Miclrie, Naden, and Runcimau visited Mr Burkes farm and slaughtered a cow which was j)ronounced by the veterinary surgeons to have been very badly diseased. Ihe rest of the herd present much the same appearance as on Mr Naden 's last visit. One of the inoculated calves has been so bad that Mr Burke amputated its tail. It is feared that the mortification will extend to the root of the tail.
