The contract was not given to one of our local citizens It was given in the usual manner to the lowest tender. The local citizen (or citizens) tender being considered the lowest. What could he have been dreaming about when he states that otbat. .contractors have, been treated most unfairly (we presume he means local contractors). Surely yonr correspondent would not take it for half the money, if so we are willing to hand it over with half as much more added, with the sanction of the Engineer. It is a grest pity he does not go a little more into figures before he rushes into such absurd statements, by finding out what quantity o! material is reaiijred, which far exceeds one-half -the contract price tendered for. We really feel sorry that he should make such a gross mistake, and feel sure he will make the amende honorable which he has done on former occasions.
