ANOTHER CORRECTION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, — In your issue of Saturday last appeared a spiteful little epistle, bearing the image and superscription of Mr Janjiep/ Bridgmau. The purport of this effusion was to contradict certain alleged misstatements, having reference to an effort made in aid of the " Wesleyan Circuit Liquidation of Debt Euji^j §s^f writer pompously styles it. But as" few of your readers understand Wesleyan synecdoche and nomenclature I may state that Mr Bridgman refers to a bazaar-and gift auction, or olio % got up by his church, and which a Free Press correspondent thinks was not sufficiently well patronised by • • Anglican friends." Now, Mr E >itor, I am of the same opinion as the Free Press correspoadent;! I know that a number of prominent ' Anglican friends," who attended the Boman Catholic concert, were " conspicuous by their absence" from the Wesleyan bazaar ; and it was to these persons in particular, and not to " Ang,ican friends" in general, that the remarks of a Free Press correspondent applied. Whenever the Roman Catholios give an entertainment there is hardly an r u Anglican/ friend" in the district who does not attend without being importunately pressed to do so. I have read a copy of the letter sent to the Free Press by the Te Awamutu correspondent, and he does not sayj'dr! even imply, that all " Anglican friends" absented themselves from the late Wesleyan bazaar. His letter simply states that most of the Protestants jn the district attended the Boman Catliolic ' ddncprf, and that some of them who took a leading part in it were " conspicuous by their absence" when the Wesley ana gave an entertainment. Can Mr Bridgman contradict that? It is the Frce'Pfcss/Sibbl'hß correspondent, that is in error. Can Mr Bridgman deny that if the support of his "Anglican friends" were a little more liberal it would save much time and trouble to members of his family who are at<|«fe«exrfca6|ny^Vov%rthe!(}w)»try /oapvaBsing for aid to their church, and selling tickets for a soiree ? The Roman Catholics had no need to do this. Why have the Wesleyans ? Can Mr Bridgman deny that the Wesleyans charge their " Anglican friends" with trying to spoil their soiree by getting up a concert a few days previously to tho date for which theirs is fixed ? Let Mr Bridgman practise what he preaches — have a little patience— and "goto a little trouble to ascertain the truth, or leave such matters, to those persons who will give reliable information." If he or his coadjntors who manufactured that epistolary gem had gone to the trouble of soing their wellknown fri*nd,l t&e- <Frc» Pre^s aoraespondent, he would have shown them, tjhe.oqpy of hia unpublished letter, and they would have been saved from the sin of being uutruthful, spiteful, and uncharitable Mr Bridgman' s letter' Wfts evidently intended' for a stroke of policy ; and I hope itf may ' prove such, and induce all "Anglican friends" to take a ticket for his soiree, or olio. Well done Mr Bridgman ! nobly done, indeed ! The Anglican leaven, I ' am glad to see, still ferments in Mr Bridgman; and there is good reason for believing he will yet return to the old fold from which he is a strayed lamb. Ijilis " reliable information," too. let me' hope, will uo more be given with a view to proselytise a " big Anglican friend." Now I have to inform him that the correspondent he attempts, t;o malign is one of his best "Anglican' 'friends/ and has always tmbscribed more liberally to the Wesleyan Church than Mr Bridgman himself has done. I trust, Mr Editor, you will publish this letter in justice to the Free Press correspondent, who has been wrongfully, and I fear wilfully, accused of misstatements, • through your columns —I beg to subscribe myself yours, &c, Jamie Puntman.
