THE OUTBREAK OF PLEUROPNEUMONIA.
In consequence of information received by Mr E. Maclean, chairman of the South Auckland Cattle Board, he proceeded last Sunday to Mr Kobt. Kirkwoods paddock, veterinary surgeon Naden, and Inspector Kunciman meeting him there. Two animals purchased by Mr Moon, at Mr Buckland's Cambridge cattle sale on Tuesday last, w^re pointed out by Mr Naden as suffering from pleuro in a very advanced stage and were forthwith ordered to be destroyed. The pott mortem examination fully confirmed Mr Naden' s opinion. As will be seen by advertisement the Board has prohibited catle being driven on the public roads, and nil public cattle sales for one month ; and, as these cattle have only been in the paddock sines Wednesday last, it is very important that the regulations should be enforced. After this M" Fantham joined the party, and proceeded to Mr Burkes farm at Pukerirau, and carefully looked over the cattle, but failed to detect disease; and several other farms in the neighborhood were visited with a like result. At Mr Richard Reynolds' request a bullock was shot on his farm which appeared to be suffering from same disease. Mr .Naden, however, distinctly stated it was not pleuro, and the poi>t mortem examination proved such to be the case — dysentery being the cause of the low state of condition of the animal. The Board have authorised Mr Naden to destroy all cattle that are in his opinion suffering from any contagious disease, and it i? hoped that all cattle-ownora who perceive anything wrong with their herds will at once give notice to the Board so as to have them examined by Mr Naden.
