The English Elections. London, April 2.
The election returns, so far as known, showthat 175 Liberals and 103 Conseivatras have been elected. The Liberals have gained forty-eight seats, and have lost eighteen. Leeds has refused Mr. Gladstone by an enormous majority. Lord Hartington has been re-elected for New Radnor without opposition. The Conservative papers foreshadow a change of Ministry. Both Liberal candidates have been elected by a large majority for Southwark, thus reversing the decision of the 13th of February, when a Conservative was elected to fill the place of the deceased Liberal member. Both Liberal membershavebeen elected for Chelsea. London, April 3. The Liberals have gained nineteen seats to-day —the total number gained being fifty Liberals, and twenty Conservatives. The sitting members for Lambeth and Tower Hamlets have been re-elected. Two Liberals have been elected for Marylebone by large majorities. Mr. Bradlaugh, a Badical candidate, has been elected by a large majority for Northampton The Kight Hon. James Lowther Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant for Ireland, ha* been defeated, by a small majority, for York. A change of Ministry is considered inevitable ; and the Tones publishes a paragraph stating that it is quite probable that Lord Granville will form the new Ministry.
