SALE OF THE EUREKA STATION.
Perhaps one of the most important sales that have ever taken place in the Waikato district is the sale of the Eureka Station, to Mr W. B. Suttor, of New South Wales. It marks the commencement of a new era in the history of colonisation and settlement of this fertile tract of country, inasmuch as it is the inauguration of the cut-ting-up principle, which the proprietors have always declared has actuated the Swamp Company in their operations of drain and grass sowing. "We have every reason to believe that this sale will be immediately followed by many others, and about 30,000 acres of drained and reclaimed land placed before the public in small lots for sale on fair terms. The area of the land sold to Mr W. B. Suttor, is about 2,000 acres, and comprises the well-known Eureka Station, outbuildings, gardens, and plantations, and some of the most fertile land in the whole Provincial District of Auckland. We heartily welcome Mr Suttor to his new home, and trust that as the pioneer of numerous " happy families," on what was years ago apparently a wilderness of swamp, he will meet with the success which the character of his investment warrants us in predicting for him.
