THE ROYAL COMMISSION.

The Royal Commission still continues its bitting. A good deal of the work was got through yesterday, when Mr Whitcombe, Commissioner of Crown Lands, was examined at great length on the matte)* of the Waimate Flams survey. About the time that the Government advertised the land for sale in Australia and throughout New Zealand the sale was authorised and advertised only a day or so before the surveyors were turned off, and this was immediately followed by the withdrawl of the notice of sale. It appears that the people along the coast fully expected then that the Government had carefully considered the step it was taking, and that it had made up its mind to back up the step. THE SPIRIT IN THE LATE CABINET. Some of the evidence given would go to show that the Government either did not know its own mind, or that the responsible action was taken without the concurrence of all the Cabinet. Further evidence is to be taken on Monday and probably on Tuesday. It is expected that the Commissioners will leave here some d.iy in the middle of next week, but where the next sitting will be held is uncertain. Besides the few public sittings, a good deal of business iv connection with the work of the Commission is done by Sir William Fox and Sir Dillon Bell.
