ALEXANDRA.

(own correspondent.) NATIVE NEWS. There is no particular native news just now ; a great deal of sickness is amongst them a kind of low fever, and many have been down for medicine, those without funds having to return without it. There is also a growing feeling of dissatisfaction against the Government at what they consider their neglect. Under the late Government there were a whole host of officials to attend to their wants, etc. Now with only Major Mair to attend here and to the whole northern districts, he has to be frequently absent, and natives who come from long distances have to return without seeing him. Last week, only while the Major was in town, a deputation from Mokau and Te Kuiti waited for two days and had to return without an interview. No doubt the Grey staff was an extensive one here, but at least there should be one Government Representative in whom the natives have confidence, permanently stationed here, in such an important native district. As it is, all kinds of stories prejudicial to the Government are daily told them on their visits here, by those whose interests were best served under the prodigal expenditure of the late Government. The officer here now, has to perform the duties of Civil Commissioner in Auckland, and R. M. at Raglan, and also Native Agent for Waikato. Tukukino with a party of Thames Natives, had an interview with Tawhiao at Hikurangi last week.
