CAMBRIDGE CAVALRY VOLUNTEERS.
The firing at floating bottles for the prizes, presented by Mr J. A. Douglas, came off on Saturday, on the bank of the river, near the residence of Major WiL-on, and, owing to it being the first competition of its kind which has taken place at Cambridge, created considerable interest. About 15 took part m the contest, trader the command of Captain Runciman, all the officers being present. The firing was very creditable, for although not a great many bottles were broken, taking into account the rapid current of the river better shooting could hardly have been expected. A little practice will, no doubt, make a great difference. The conditions were : — Three bottles, and three shots at each. The following are the prize winners : — 123 total. Trooper H. Fcrgusson 023 5 Trooper W. Selby 023 5 Captain Runcim.in 400 4 Troopers Fergusson and Selby shot oft the tie, when Fergusson made a fine hit, scoring 4, Selby missing.
