MEETING OF THE KIRIKIRIROA HIGHWAY BOARD.

A meeting of the trustees of the above district was held yesterday afternoon at the Koyal Hotel, East Hamilton. Present — Messrs Primrose (chairman), and Messrs Cochrane, Gillett, and Coates. The minutes of the preceding meeting having been read and confirmed, correspondence was read showing that notice had been given to certain land owners to | grub up and remove furze irom the public ; roads adjoining thair lauds. I A letter was received from Mr Vourless, complaining of the excessive rate levied on his property ; also, from Mr Joshua Foster, protesting against the shutting up of Mr Swarbrick's road, as the said road ran through his property, and asking that, as the shortest road to the Hamilton bridge from a large area of settled land, the Board would cause the above road to be rendered fit for traffic Mr Coates drew attention to the state of the road from Steele'n Hill to his farm as being almost impassable from furze. The Chairman thought the Board should take decisive action in the matter of f ur^e clearing where notice had been given. Mr Coates proposed that the matter should be left for another month, and then if the work was not done the law should be put in motion. It was resolved to have the road between Mr Seddon's and Capt. Steele's properties cleared of furze. One tender only was received for gravelling or sanding a portion of the Hamilton - Hokonui road from Messrs Livingstone and Booth, at Is lid per yard. Mr Coates contended that the amount was too large. \ The Engineer said he thought it a fair I price. The last contract let was taken too low. The Chairman thought they might fairly accept the tender. Mr Coates questioned whether the I Board was justified in ho lai'ge an oxpen- ' diture on the road in question considering I the state of the funds. > Mr Cochraue thought if the funds were , available, now was the time to push the work on. ! Mr Cochrane proposed that 30 chains OUI7 ■should be done,

It was then resolved to accept the tender for 30 chains only instead of 60. The Engineer produced the necessary plans to enable the Board to advertise the opening and closing of a road through lioveli's property. Several accounts were then passed, and the meeting broke up.
