ASSESSMENT COURT. (Before H. W. Northcroft Esq.)
WAITOA HIGHWAY BOARD DISTRICT. The Assessment Court for the above district was held at Morrinsville on Thursday, at 11 a.m. Alexander Bremner objected that name of David Shaw was omitted from rate list whereas he was the owner of 40 acres. Objection allowed and name placed on list. Same objector objected that Frederick Burnett had been omitted from list. Objection allowed and name placed on list. Same objector objected that name of Robert Cowley was improperly on list as owner of 2000 acres, but names of James Halley and James Buckland should have been on list as owners. Objection allowed and names substituted. J. B. Whyte objected that he is rated as leaseholder of 2000 acres, whereas he is not the lessee. Objection allowed. Same objected that his name appeared as owner of 4781 acres, whereas he owns only 4281 acres. Objection allowed. John Horrell objected that he is assessed for 1541 acres, whereas he owns only 1441 acres. Objection allowed. Also objected that aforesaid property is rated too high. Valuation sustained. Also objected that he is assessed too high for 1871 acres. Valuation sustained. Reuben Parr objected that he was rated too high. Mr Chepmcll, Chairman of the Board, took exception to the objection on the ground of informality. Objection struck out. John Wilson : The same. Frederick Strange : The same. John MeGlashan objected to excessive assessment. Reduced £50.
