CONCERT AND DANCE AT TE RAHU.
There are in this district a few enter* prising young nvu who axe worthy to be numbered with the " brave who deserve the fair. 1 * * few nights ago they had a meeting for the purpose of arranging for a series of monthly entertainments, combinding a concert and danoe, to be given in the school, the first of whioh oame off on Cuesday night last, and was in every respect a gieat success. All the musical talent in the distriot was brought into requisition, and thefastid oub with respect to ''harmony of sweet Hounds" were heard to acknowledge that ''muni© had chartna." Where all evidently pub forth their best efforts to please, it would be invidious to mention names, but I would like to say that to Mr Sibley, bandmaster, Te wamutu, is due the smceas of the musical part of the eutertarom nt. Both ladies and gentlemen sang beautifully' but the ladies with their soft sweet voices were superior in their choice of songs, and in their style of singing In more than one instano «, norvomnesfl somewhat marrei a, really good voice— but as same of the young ladies he referred to, are unaocustomed to so large an audience aa that of last night, they naturally felt shy. For amateurs, all did inujh better than was expected. The diociog was all that could be deerired, the M.U. acquitting him>elf very credic.bly. he gentlomea were rather iv eroess of the ladies, whose phy-»ioal eudeiv^raace wan puc to the teat to accom;n>iatd those apathetio young m«n who forgot to bring their partners ; refrerfhineut were choioe and plentiful, Mr Wheal proving himself a good caterer. u < he lampd shon brightly o cr fair women and brive m^Q." aa they • tripped it oa the li^ht fantastic top," or took the iavigorating promenade, young and old feelliag h^ppy, aai tho old feeling young ouoe more. It dhou'd be good encouragem^nt for the pr iinoten, hit their fl-st Ru&ertaiamout .veat of so wdl. 1 shall io_k out fo< tho jest, which I hope to be a gr^uer »a->>'*- ri of number.—
