HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
\ SPECIAL meeting of the Council was held last night to consider the by-laws published in a late issue of this journal Present: The Mayor and Councillors Beale, Knox, Jones, Davis, Vialou and Peat. Cr. Beale moved in relation to hawkers " That the word hawker or pedlar be intended to mean any person not having any established place of business in the district, who car ies round from house to bouse for sale within the borough merchandize goods or commodoties of an imperishable nature. Seconded by Cr. Knox and carried. The by-laws were then agreed to until arriving at that requiring vehicles to carry lights at nigbt between the hours of sunset and sunrise. The Mayor thought that exceptions shoull be made on moonlight nights. Cr. Jones thought that a week before and a week after the full moon vehicles might be exempted from carrying lights. It was thought impossible to draw the line between dark and light nights even at the full of the moon, and the by-law was allowed to stand as printed. Instead of a radius of 25 chains from either Post Office as the area over which cattle shall not be allowed at large between the hours of sunset and sunrise, the by-law was made to extend half amile from either Post Office. 'J he Clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps re the by-laws in accordance with the Municipal Corporations Act. This concluded the business.
