TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I send you annexed a copy of a resolution passed to-day at the annual meeting of subscribers to the Whakatane t ublic Library, and request that you will bo good enough to advocate the idea embodied in the resolution, I have thought that the best way of bringing the matter to the attention of Library and Mechanics Institute Officials throughout this provincial district, is to send tke resolution to the ratepayers, and desire their advocacy. — I am, &c, E. i>. Resolved — " That this annual meeting of subscribers to the Whakatane Public Library (Incorporated), desires to express its disapproval ot the steps being taken to hand over the Auckland Provincial Council Library to the Burgesses of Auckland City, and considers that, as that valuable library was purchased out of the funds of the whole province, country districts have as gciod a right to the said Provincial Council Library as the chief city in this provincial district ; and that the chairman be empowered to communicate with the Government and with other libraries throughout the provincial district, with a view to an equitable partition of the said Provincial Council Library.
