The Constabulary are now basily eDgaged in constractiog the road between Maha and Waingorgoro. Fixty more recruits are expected at Opunake, the half of which will be sent to strengthen Captain Baker's position at Waihi which is considered weak. Captain Morrison (late of Waikato) is in command at Opunake. Major Goring with 200 men is at Kaipipi, 120 of whom go out daily to road work ; the camp at night being guarded by 20 pickets and 15 camp guards. It is expected that another week will see the road between Maha and Waingorgoro completed.
