THE W AIM ATE PLAINS. (Press Association.) Taranaki, Saturday.
The Oeo meeting will take place as soon as Mr Parris returns, but it is not expected that much will come of it. The natives themselves place more importance on the great meeting to take place in March at Parahaka, but whether any peaceful solution of the difficulty will follow is extremly doubtful. Meantime there is every apparent cordiality and good will between the natives and the European forces. They have brought presents of figs, turkeys, and potatoes to Colone* Roberta' camp; but that wary commander, while he allows those presents to be courteously received doubles his right guard and uses extra vigilance against BurpriBe. There are many indeed who believe that Te Whiti's policy is to lull our forcee into the fools paradise of fake security. Amongst those who have visited the camp is Te Wetere, the leader of the party who massacred the Rev. Mr Whately at the White Cliffs.
