KIHIKIHI. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
The annual meeting of householders of Kihikihi Educational District was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening last* Mr W. A. Cowan was chosen chairman. The balance sheet was read and adopted, when the following gentlemen were named a committee for the ensuing year, viz., Messrs W. A. Cowan, A. lUsb, W. Qualtrough, G. Maunder, G. Maclnnter, T?. Logan, and L. Ballin. The attendance was a very poor one, scarcely a sufficient number could be got together to constitute the meeting. School matters lately hero have been in " bad form," hence this disagreeable state of things. At a subsequent meeting of the new committee, Mr Cowan was elected chairman. The building of Rewfs new house, will, it is expected, be commenced early next ! month. The plan and specifications are. evidences that it is intended to be a largo , handsome structure, well suited in every way to the wamts and requirements of a higher order of civilization than the old warrior has attained to. The settlers generally are well pleased to have their old friend Rewi in their midst. Yesterday, 'the anniversary of the Province, was well and patriotically kept here. An excellently well got up child* rens Sunday school pic nic and sports, with good templars carnival combined, was held in the handsome paddock of Seargeant Cooper. M esdames Qualtrough, Corboy, Cooper, Bridgman and Ashby were indefatigable at the tables, and in attending to the wants of the thirsty visitors, after which a large and select quadrille party was got up in the township, and kept up till a late hour. January 30, 1880.
