ELECTION OF SCHOOL COM. MITTEES.

posal were exhausted. The members of the outgoing committee recommended their successors to urge upon the board the desirability of building a new teachers house and selling the old one, as it is almost past repair, a post and rail fence is also much required round the playground. Swings, etc., for the amusement of the children, should be e/ected. It is a matter for gratification that the board has appointed a singing master for the district, who gives weekly lesons to the childreu, and they have already made consider iblc progress. Before the school closed for the Christ- , mas holidays, the chairman, together with the Keys. Willis and Evans conducted examination on the subjects in which the children had been taught from Standard 1 to Standard 4. The examiners ! expressed themselves plea ed with the result of the c caminations, and that the progress the children had made in the various subjects reflected great credit on the teachers. Prizes were awarded to those who merited them, and each child who had attended during the examination received either a prize or present. In July last, the Board of Education requested the consent of the committee to remove the teacher to another school. The committee consented, and the board have appointed Mr K. D. Stewart in his place, who commenced his duties to-day. The thanks of the committee and parents of the children attending the school are due to the trustees of the Public Hall for •< indly granting the school to be held in that building for two months, while the additions to the sohoolhouse were being completed.
