THE POLICE COURT TRIAL.
Thetrial of the rioters at Christchurch on Friday resulted as follows : — Barrett, the publican, was discharged by the Bench, as there was no evidence to show that he had aided or abetted the riot ; league, ons of the aocused, proved an tli >i, and was also discharged ; Stephen, flyan, MjJMihon, Go,wley, and Mahoney were discharged, as evidence showed that they took none or very slight part in the riots. The others were oommitted for trial. Two rioters were arrested last evening. Their nnmss are Jeremiah. Kebie and Daniel O'Keffe. A man named Arthur McMann was arrested on Thursday night in Hagley Park, i ohavged with being oonoerned in the recent riot. The Protestant Alliance Society have retained Mr George Harper to prosecute in the riot cases. I A meeting of citizens interested in prosecuting: the reoent rioters was held, at I whioh it was decided to subscribe for a lawyer to proseouta the offenders.
