THE RECENT DISTURBANCES AT TIMARU AND CHRISTCHURCH.

Two more rioters were arrested at Timaru on Thursday. Eight have now been arrested, and one more is wanted. On Thursday morning an advertisement and local appeared in the Herald, calling on the Orangemen and sympathisers to assemble at noon, and walk in procession.

A largo crowd gathered in front of the town hall, where the procession was to start from, only to find the entrances placarded with notices signed by the Alayor, calling on Her Majesty's peaceful aubjeots not to assemble, and from the Master of the Orange Lodge, intimating that the resolution of the Lodge declared t/iat Orangemen shall not walk, and requesting its observance. There is no attempt at any demonstration beyond a few ncn wearing marigolds in their buttonholes. The advertisement invited the public to participate in a Protestant procession through the town, and stating that colours would be provided. The Orange Lodge, on learning this, held a meeting and passed a resolution that the Lodge should not parade or take part in any procession, I and a notice was immediately published calling on the Orangemen to desist from taking any part in the parade. The Mayor, on the advertisement being known, issued a proclamation requesting all peaceably-disposed citizens to desist from participating in the procession. As the advertisement re same was not authorised by any committee, there is great excitement about the matter, which is evidently a hoax. The advertisement is unsigned, as is also the vouchers for them taken by the Herald. A procession of fully 3000 people inarched through the main streets about 11 o'clock, and halted on different occasions to give ringing cheers for the Queen, and also for Orangamen.
