THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL.

Thb annual examination of the children attending the above school was held on Thursday and Friday last, and conduoted by Colonel Lyon and the Revs. W. IS. de L Willis and W. ; Evans; The prizes awarded were distributed on Tuesday at 3 p.m., when most of the children were present with some of their parents. Colonel Lyon, on taking the chair, said that Mrs Lyon had been asked to give out the prizes, but he was sorry to say that she was away from homo. Ho regretted that Mr Willis and Mr Evans were not present, but he had received letters from them expressing their great satisfaction at the proficiency displayed by the children m all the subjects m which they had been examined. . He also was very much pleased himself at the result of the examination. their answers m the subject m which he examined them showed that they had been well taught and had attended to their lessons. After a few more remarks he proceeded to distribute the prizes as follows : — Fourth Class. — Boys: Robert McVeagh, first prize for general proficiency (prize presented by E. M. Edgcumbe", Esq.) ; James McVeagh, second prize for general proficiency; Fred Hosking, prize for arithmetic (also presented by E. M. Edgcumbe, Esq.) ; Charles Arnold, prize for goad conduct ; David Carnachan, prize for general progress. Girls: Elizabeth JNixon, first prize for general proficienoy; Julia Crumby, second prize, for general proficiency and sewing ; Frances Robertson, prize for regular attendance; Eliza Bartlett for good conduct. Thied Class. — Boys: Henry Wilson, first prize for general proficiency; Herbert Johnson, second prize for general proficiency ; Henry Oatnp', prizft for reading; Thomas Mynott, for writing ; George Henson, for regular attendance ; George Bowley, prize for good conduct. Girls : Minnie Morahead, first prize for general proficiency ; Eliza Henson, second prize for general proficenoy; Margaret McVeagh, prize for regular attendance ; Margaret Ryan, prize for good conduct (presented by Mr Webber); Mary Willoughby, first prise for sewing (given by 'Mr E. B. The prizes having been distributed, the head teacher made a. few remarks and then the children sang some rounds, &c, concluding with Save the Queen," and then dispersed. The school will re-open after the holidays, oii, Monday, the J 9th January.
