To-morbow (Boxing Day), there will be a general holiday kept throughout Waikato, and m nearly all the settlements local sports have been got up to enable the young and old . to enjoy themselves, after a colonial fashion, rendered necessary by the season, m out-door amusements. Whatawhata heads the list with an attractive race meeting, which, while not likely to attract outside horses, will leave all the better chance for those m the district, and better sport for the public. The acceptances for the Handicap Hurdle Race and Whatawhata Handicap appear m our advertising colums. Athletic sports will be held after the races, the first of which will commence at 11 a.m. and the day's amusement will wind up a ball. The p.s. Delta leaves Hamilton and Njraruawahia m the morning for Whatawhata, returning at 5 p.m., and the trip by river will doubtless be an enjoyable one. Alexandra too celebrates the day with athletic sports, commencing, at 10 o'clock m. the morning. There is a long and varied programme, which will be found m full m another column, and from tho naine3 of the stewards and other officers appointed to parry out the day's sports, we may look for a very successful meeting. Hamilton East, as usual, keeps up its annual sports on Boxing Day, commencing at 11 o'clock, enlivened as heretofore by the usual trotting match, which is always looked forward to with interest, as some very excellent trotting horses are generally found amongst the entries. There is a long programme consisting of 19 events.
