The annual examination of the above school was held m the sohoolhouse on Friday, 19th December. A number of visitors -were present, principally members of the Committee. The result of the examination showed that the children had made marked progress during the ten months Mrs Trobe has been m charge of tham, and I hear that parents and children alike are well satisfied. A year ago the average attendance had fallen to about 20, while it reached 34 m the Septemberi or last quarter', and the number of scholars now on. the roll is '51. The prizes m the two highest classes were presented by Wm. Sc»tt, Eaq. — three m each class. Fifth (or Highest) Class. — Minnie Scott, Ist; James Ryburn, 2nd; Willie , tTrobo, 3rd. Foubth Class.— Bella Scott, Ist ; William Hume, 2nd ; Annie Walsh, 3rd. The teacher's prizes for best, attendance wers taken for boys by Willie Macky, and for girls by Emily Sing ; and the sewing prize by Kate Dillon. : Other prizes, raised by public subscription, were taken as follows : — Third Class. — Theodore Meredith and Doras Macky, both a first prize ; Charles Rogers, 3rd prize. Fourth Class. —J. H. Webb, Ist.; Louisa Ryburn, 2nd; George Neshauaen, 3rd. Fifth Class.— Edith Trbbe and Minnie Germann, both a first prize ; Norah Sing, 3rd prize. The total amount spent m prizes is over £6. The unsuccessful scholars were each presented with a neat card, being either a very natural representation of some fruit or flowers. Besides the ordinary course of instruction, Mrs Trobe teaches sewing, drawing, and singing, and her efforts to advance school are duly appreciated by the whole district.
