TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —ln your issue of the 16th inst. is a letter from Cr. Harris, in which he assigns as a reason for my signature to the letter he complains of, ' tbei. having opposed me at my election.'' Now, I had not the slightest idea which way Or. Harris voted until I saw his letter, and, consequently . could not have
been influenced by any such notice: further, I, myself, voted for Cr. Harris, and solicited others to do the same at his election. Cr. Harris heroically affirms that he will do his duty " fearlessly,'* even though opposed by a clique. In his own statement " oar opposing them m. the late election" Cr. H arris expresses himself m the plural number, and thereby clea>ly shows that he himself is one of a "compaot" or "clique," from which source, I presume, emanates his municipal heroism. He also states that on the 10th inst. he remained m the Council Chambers to do business, and that one of the other four went away amd so spoilt the quorum. Now, I ask you, Mr Editor, how such could be the case when Crs Beale, Peat, Vialou, and myself, after wasting a full hour m waiting fixed the adjournment to to the following night. (?) Surely, oither Cr. Harris' memory or hid veraoity must be at fault. Ido trust it is the former.— I am, &c, William Jomeb. Hamilton, December 17, 1879.
