RAGLAN.

Raglan, lltli December. Some time sinoe it was determined to deliver a course of lectures in connection with the Raglan Book Club. Many of the members who undertook to give addresses having had their turn, it fell to the lot of the Rev. C. Sohnackenberg- to give his lQoturo last evening-., The subject selected by the rev. gentleman *vas '■' Manliness." The chair was occupied by Mr Hanson. At the conclusion of the lecture the usual votes of thanks wore proposed and unanimously agreod to. The Raglan • Book Club held a meeting aftar the lecture to select boo'<son account of the subsidy granted by the Government through the School Board. The works seleoted wera all of the useful and instructive kind.

Visitors from Waikato are ooTirnencing to take advantage of the new road over the mountain to pay Raglan a visit. Yesterday a well-known gentleman with bis family arrived hero from Qhaut>o, foj,*

the purpose of enjoying' the sea air. A Milburn waggon was the conveyance, comfortably covered in. This probably is the first party of tho many visitors we expect to see from "Waikato here thi3 summer.

Preparations are being made for the races, which are to be held at the Waitetuna on the 22nd inst.; this day being fixed so as not to claah with the Christmas sports on your side of the mountain. The last few days have been exceedingly warm here, the sun being very hot.—[Correspondent.
