Mb D. Fallon we see is advertising m the Auckland papers for thirty railway laborers for the Ohaupo and Te Awamutu railway contract.

We observe by advertisement that the subscription list of the Waikato Handbook will close on the 30th inst. and that uo description of property, land, stock, or business can be received after that date. We notice that the Press generally looks upon the proposed Waikato Hand-book as not only beneficial to individual subscribers whose property thus acquires an almost world-wide advertisement but to the district generally.

Tub greatest musical treat that has been yet afforded fco the people of Hamilton awaits them m the performance of the Carandini Operatic and Ballad Compamr, which will make *ifcs appearance m Le Quesne's Hall on Monday and Tuesday, the loth and 16tl\ inst. The Company performs at Cambridge on the two following days. ' Those who have ever heard the Carandini's will only be too glad to hear them again. Those who have not will be wise to take advantage of the opportunity. • Madame Carandini herself forms one of the Company, and though her two daughters Rosina and Fanny Carandini, who so long charmed the musical world m company with her, are not present, a third, Miss Marie Carandini is announced. Messrs Sherwin and Gordon Gooch make up the Company. Of Madame Carandini's singing we need say nothing. Those who have heard her know the.treat before them. , Miss Marie Carandini is less well known, ! 1 and we therefore take the following from the Auckland Herald of Saturday :-— Miss 1 Marie Carandini sung several gems, amongst others/ Once Again" (SullivaiO, m which she achieved a marked success for which she had to pay the penalty of an encore. She acceded 'by singing to her own accompaniment the sweet and plaintive Scottish air " I Cannot Mind my Wheel," with exquisite effect. Heirendering of " Ring on, Sweet Angelus" was also a splendid treat, and was received mth prolonged applause. Mr Gordon Gooch sung several pieces, the best of which perhaps was tho grand descriptive song, " Wreo__ed and Saved," his effective representation of which fairly brought xJLown the House, and m answer to a demand for an encore he substituted " WiU o» % Wisp." Balf c's gem, " Trust Her Not,"- mng by Madame and Miss Marie Carandini, was a,v popular as ever; The quartettes, trios, bufio_-d#ejfcß, and ' other selections were much appreciated, and it was acknowledged that the newprogramme was quite as excellent as the preceding png, *

It has been decided for various reasons, and notably that the broaking up of a private school takes place on Thursday evening, to defer until Friday evening tho promenade concert to be held m Mr R. Gwynne's gardens, for providing prizes for the chiWren of the West Hamilton district school. Every effort has been made to render the affair a success. Chinese lanterns .have been procured to illuminate the gardens, the band of the Hamilton Light Infantry will perform, and a large amount of local amateur talent has been bespoken. This promenade concert will doubtless, should the weather prove fine, be very popular . and a general attraction, and we would remind those who take advantage of. the opportunity of enjoying themselves that the least return m consideration of Mr Gwynne's kindness m opening his wellkept grounds for this concert is that no damage be done to the trees and flowers, and that the promeHaders keep to the walks and lawn. A Public Meeting of the inhabitants of Hamilton, is called by the ActingiVlayor for 'this evening to urge upon the Government tbe desirability of commencing at once the Thames- Waikato Kailway at this end of the line.
