TE AWAMUTU.

December 3, 1079. The monthly meeting of tho Rangiaohia Highway Board waa held m Te Awanui tv on Saturday last. After the usual formality of reading the minutes ot last meeting was gone through, a letter from the Commissioner of Crown Lands was read, enquiring if any of the lots described on the map, and tinted pink, were required for any purpose whatever of public utility. The reply was promptly sent, so as to be m time for the Waste Lands Board meeting, and stated th»t all the lots m question, except two, were' of no nse whatever as public reserves, and the sooner they wore sold the better; but that two of them, rather heavily timbered sections, one of which — No. 213, parish of Punui— is centrally situated and not far from To Awamutu ; the other one — lot 46, m the immediate . vicinity of Kihikihi—would, if well looked after by tho local authorities, be invaluable acquistions. as public reserves. Tho next matter was an application from residents of To Awamutu, requesting that their township be made a separate highway district from that of Rangiaohia The Board thought that tho Te Awamutiaus bided their time well — they were wise m their generation. They had now a fine new bridge with its expensive *pproache*** nearly completed. They would have a clean sheet and a fair start to begin with. The Board, however, had no objection to their application to form a Town Brard. The question of a pound-keeper at Te Awamutu for the ensuing year was discussed, and it was decided to advertise the same m the Waikato Times last week m thia month,. aud to lease the pound to the highest bidder. It was resolved to call for tenders for road works immediately required on the Ohaupo road, To Rapa, Rangiaohia, and the neighborhood of Kihikihi, and that the Board meet again on Taturday evening, the 6th instant, to receive and decide upon the tenders for the works m question,—[Correspondent.]
