THAMES VALLEY RAILWAY AND OTHER WORKS.
Whilst Waikato members and settlers have been interviewing the Minister for Public Works on the desirability of undertaking the Cambridge Branch Railway, the Thames people have waited on the Attorney-General urging on tUe Government the necessity of proceeding with the Thames- Waikato Railway. A deputation consisting of the Mayor, Messrs Brodie, Sheehan, and others waited on tho Attorney-General on Tuesday. * In reply he stated there was no intention of the Government to stop the Thames Railway. It was a question of money alone. Three millions of the loan would be floated on he condition that the balance shall not be placed on the market for fifteen months, and no other loan for two years afterwards. The railway bridge at Hamilton would be ordered from home. The telegraph line to Waikato via Ohinemuri, construction of road by same route, also from Cambridge to Rotorua, and completion of road to 'Taurauga, will be undertaken if the money is at command. He (Mr Whitaker) would see that the district suffered only m proportion to others m the Colony from shortness of funds.
