TUTUKINO ATTEMPTS TO STOP THE ROAD.
On Wedne3day a party with ninety head of cattle left the Thames for Waikato, and pn reaching Tutukino's place were stopped by him when passing along the Government road. He refused to allow them to proceed. They offered j£2 to pass, but he still refused. He told them, however, that though he would not allow them to proceed along the Government road, they might go by another road which crosses native laud. They attempted to do so, but after going some little distance found a gate barring their way, at which woro a number of natives armed with sticks who refused to let them pass. Remonstrances being of no avail, and, determined not to be baffled, the Europeans took the bull by the horns,' and forced the gate v'i'et armis, bringing their cattle on with them, and reaching Waikato safely yesterday morning.
