CAMBRIDGE JOCKEY CLUB CAVALRY RACES.

President: Every Maclean, Esq. Stewards: Captain Uunciman, Lieutenants Fisher and Kirkwood, Messrs K. H. D. Fergusson, W. L. Martyn, John A. Dougl las, J. All will, Edward Hewitt, and A. Isaaca. Judge; Lieut.-Colonel Lyon! Handicappers: Messrs Eobert Fisher and A. A. Allom. Starters: Messrs R. H. D. Fergusson and Reuben Parr. Clerks of the Course: Messrs F. Smale and B Ewen. Clerk of the Scales: Mr Henry Asher. It was thought that the afternoon would be wet, but the weather held up bravely, and a more pleasant day could not have been wished for. There must have been over 400 people on the ground, amongst whom were a fair proportion of ladies and nearly all the Cambridge cavalry. The band pltyed on tho grand stand in their usual good stvle, the four clarionets showing up well "against the brass. The drummer (Trollope, a Dane), deserves special mention, and Saunders was very good with the .kettle-drum. The band is constantly changing, but in spitfi of this it keeps up its efficiency, and reflects great credit on Mackintosh, the bandmaster. ■ m The course was in splendid condition, and it would be hard to find a better in the colony. The stand is a grand building, consisting of a bar, nearly circular, with stewards' room and weighing I room below. There is also a ladies' room l on the stand. The meeting was a very successful one, and if such scratch race's under the present management are such we may look forward to a grand day about January 21st, when a programme will be offered and high prizes that ought to attract horses from all parts of the island.
