CAUGHT AT LAST.
A clever capture was made yesterday by Police-Constables Gillies and McLeod, at Alexandra, of a native named Wara Pakiri. This man stole Mr Grant's horse at the Mauku m the year .1875, and was then arrested by Constable Liniiner, -t that time statianod at Mdreer, but was rescued from Limmer by a number of natives. He made his way to the King countr3 r , and remained there up to yesterday, when he paid a visit to Alexandra, and to his great astonishment was at once pounced upon by Constables McLeod and Gillies, who, afte,r a sharp struggle, succeeded m securing him, and ia a very short time were en route for Hamilton with their prisoner. The natives, on learning that Pakri had been arrested, became very excited, and it was feared that a rescue would be attempted; Captain Capel, however, with great promptitude, on seeing the movements of the Maoris and that there was a possibility of their following the constables, turned out all the available mounted men and sent them as an escort after the party to Ohaupo. The prisouer arrived m Hamilton safe yesterday evening at seven o'clock.
