SALE OF WAIHOU LANDS.

There was quite a crowd of auxious spectators at Le Queane's Hall, on Thursday afternoon, when Mr J. S. Backiiind offered by auction the allotments m Mr J. P. Campbell's township of Waihou. A large number of persons attended the sale from Cambridge, and indeed the greater number of tht lots seemed to have passed into Cambridge hands. The bidding was brisk and spirited, and the results mast be as satisfactory to the late proprietor as they are gratifying to the public at large proving a3 they do the faith of a large number of persons m the future of our country lands, for without a prosperoas < back country town sections would be of little value. The turn which affairs have taken at Wellington has doubtless done much already to restore that confidence m the minds of investors which lha past eigheen months had so rudely shaken, and the prices realised on Thursday reached as high as ,£SOO per acre, an enormous price for what can only at present be called the site for a township. Still, there is no doubt but that at the head of the navigation a large and important central town must sooner or later spring up and this doubtless infinanced the purchasers on Thursday.
