HAMILTON DOMAIN BOARD
A meeting- of the Board took place on Thursday evening, Captain Dawson in the ohair. There were also present Messrs JBeale, Knox, Peat, Harris, Vialou, Potter, and McDonald. Mr Knox proposed, and Mr McDonald seconded," That the section, No 11 of the domain land, be withdrawn from the schedule of sale on Saturday next." Carried unanimously. The meeting was then adjourned until next day, at i p.m.
At four o'clock yesterday afternoon the Board again met. Present: Capt. Dawson (in the chair), Messrs. Potter, Beale, Harris, Knox, Vialou, Hume, and McDonald.
On the motion of \<r Vialou the Board went into Committee, to consider the condition of the leases.
Dr Beale proposed as the toAvn belt was really a reserve to maintain the health of the town, that not more than ono house be allowed to each allotment. Seconded by Mr Vialou. The proposal was losb, Messrs. Beale and Vialou only voting for it.
It was understood that at the end of the term the land should be put to auction again, the first lesee having* no priority of right to a second term. Dr Beale proposed that the lands bo let for the first five years at a nominal rent, say, Is per acre, tho full rent to commence at the end of five yeai*s, but that the land be fenced within two years. There was no seconder, the attempt to thus throw the lands into the hands of mere speculators for a rise, meeting with general disapprobation, and the motion fell to the ground. The report of the committee for arranging the auction, was read, showing that the auctioneer's charges would be heavy. To save expense, it was proposed to take out a license for the Secretary to sell, but Mr Knox said, that under the circumstances, as the Board was entirely without funds, he would sell gratuitously, and the offer was gladly accepted. Another attempt of Dr Beale to quash the sale of the leases altogether, died the usual death of the Dr's motions, want of a seconder, Mr Potter remarking that they were only made to subserve an ulterior object, and to gratuitously advertise the mover. It was further resolved to sell the leases, subject to the Governor's approval, and the meeting separaicd.
