CAMBRIDGE HIGHWAY BOARD.
A Monthly Meeting- of the above was held last Saturday. Present : Messrs Graham (Chairman), Shaw, Allwill and W. L. Martyn. After reading the minutes of last meoting, and correspondence, a number of accounts Avere considered and deferred, pending the Secretary's report, as to the "financial position, present and future, of the . Board. A sum of £92 Is 7d was ordered (
to be paid to Mr Montague on account of the Victoria road contract. A tender from. Mr 11. M. Shaw,- to maintain the Victoria Road m an efficient state of repair, for the. current year, for a sum of £20,. was accepted. Mr W. H. Randcrson made application for the appointment of Ranger to the Board. It was resolved to appoint him as requested, remuneration to be one shilling per head, for cattle or horses impounded for being illegally at large on the public roads. The Secretaiy was instructed to give formal notice to certain settlers, to eradicate f arzG growing on the roads adjoiuing their property. The following letter was road, from the Chairman Tamahere Highway Board: — " Sir, — I am directed,' by tho Chairman of the Tamahere Highway Board, to acknowledge, the receipt of your letter, conveying an intimation, that the Victoria road being now completed, and m an efficient state for general traffic, that the portion, of it running through the Tamahere Highway District, will, m future, be left to the care of this Board. Mr Reynolds desires me to convey the hearty thanks of the. Road Board Trustees and Ratepayers of Tamahere, to your Board and the people of Cambridge, for their liberality and public spirit, m opening up this road, at much individual trouble and expense. He trusts that it may prove to be a profitable and pleasant channel of communication between the settlers of Cambridge, Tamahero, Piako and Waitoa." — I am, &c, Jas.
