KIRIKIRIROA HIGHWAY BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above named Board, was held at the Royal Hotel, HamilV^i East, on "Wednesday, the 3rd instant. The Trustees present were, Messrs Gillett, Lovell, Primrose and Walker. In the absence of the Chairman (Mr J. B. Whyte), it was unanimously resolved, that Mr Primrose take the chair. The minutes of the last meeting having been read, confirmed, and signed by the Chairman, pro tern., the Secretary reported that the Board account, at the Bank of New Zealand, showed a debit balance, to date', of £284 4s 4d. The following accounts were passed, and ordered to be paid, those' relating to works having been duly certified to by the Engineer to the Board (Mr Breakellj, who was present : — Mr Wm. Atkin, £1 ; Mr Ml Walsh, £33 Is 3d; Mr . John Davis, £7 4s ; Mr E. Johnson, £7 4s ; Mr J. Gibbs, £5 ; sundries, £1 2s ; total, £56 118 3d.A Petition, addressed to the Trustees, was read, from Mr Robert James and twenty two other ratepayers, residing in the Kirikiriroa district, in the neighbourhood of Ngaruawahia, praying that the Board take such action .as may seem to them necessary, to frustrate a movement alleged to be in progress at Ngaruawahia, having for its object the incorporation of that portion of Kirikiriroa in which they live, with the Newcastle Town Board District. ' . The Secretary was instructed to inform the memorialists, that the Board had received no official intimation of the action referred to, and that, when notice had been served, the Trustees will promptly attend to the interests of the ratepayers and the district. Mr F. R. Claude made an application to the Board, through Mr Wm. C Breakell, Engineer to the Board, to make certain alterations or deviations in the roads running through that part of his property, in Kirikiriroa,. commonly known as Moule's farm. The Board having carefully examined and considered the plan and description produced by the Engineer, came to the unanimous decision tha,t the deviations proposed would be greatly to the public advantage, and the Secretary was instructed to take measures, in accordance with law, to stop the roads shown on the plan, and to acquire the land proposed to be given by Mr Claude, for the' formation of the new roads. The Engineer reported, that he had made a tour of inspection of the district, in conjunction with Trustees resident in the neighbourhood, as resolved at last meeting, and laid upon the table a rep »rt, showing the various works which, in his opinion, should receive the first attention of the Board. On a motion by Mr Primrose, it wad \ agreed that the necessary work, beyond Mullions' Gully, viz., making a ditch and forming the road, be executed by the two day laborers in the permanent employment of the Board. Mr Walker proposed that, "As the cutting near Rumney's appeared to be a work of immediate necessity, the Engineer be instructed to call for tenders, to be considered at next meeting." Seconded by Mr Lovell, and agreed to. Mr Lovell moved, " That the Engineer be authorised to have the road cleared between the two bridges, on the river road, cost not to exceed £10 ; to obtain four puriri posts and six planks, for a culvert on the same road." * Mr Breakell was also instructed to call for tenders for the formation of the road leading from the Great South Road to the Railway Station, at Taupiri. Tenders to 30 received, up to noou ou the ,17th iast.
