Sib, — I notice, m this day's issue of the Waikato Times, a letter, signed " Whatawhata," m which he says, a notice has just been posted onMr McKellow's Hotel, that Mr Cunningham has been elected by the Te Awamutu Committee, to represent their interests, and that Mr Roche is to be requested, by the Auckland Committee, to -withdraw, and then goes on to say: "Many people considers that Mr Roche's chances are superior to Mr Cunniagham's, and are very much disappointed." Now, sir, I must say, I was present, with many others, at the time the notice was posted up, and that the people here, then, showed no feeling of disappointment, but, on the contrary, expressed their gratification, that an understanding was arrived at liy the two committees, as to which of the two candidates should, stand m the liberal interests. The only person. I heard make use of the above expression, was Mr F. A. Whitaker, who was also present at the time the notice was posted up. He did appear to be greatly disappointed, at the time, and could hardly credit the report, as contained m the notice, as, he said, Mr Roche assured him. that he would not withdraw from the contest. Now, it is a well known fact, that the Anti-G-reyitea have organised a plan, to promise Mr Roche support, and, if possible, to keep him m the field till the day of election, for the purpose of splitting up the liberal vote between himself and Mr Cunningham, and then, at the last moment, desert him, and vote for the opposition candidate. — I am, &c, John Febqtjson.
