WHYTiT. c ? TW7-A IPA ELECTION Mr Cunningham will address the Elec tors at l at 6.30. p.m. Harapepe, Saturday, 30th August, a 3 4 p.m. Ngaruawahia, Tuesday, 2nd Septembei at 6.30 p.m. ( Hamilton, Wednesday, 3rd September at 6.30 p.m. . Pukerimu, Friday, Sth September, a ' 30 p.m.* TO THE ELECTORS OF WAIPA. GENTLEMEN.— In offering mysel: as a candidate to represent you ii v Parliament, I will briefly state a few oi the measures I deem require redress, anc the line of policy I would support if returned. Among the measures requiring redress, I look upon the purchase oi Native Lands by private speculators as being m the highest degree unjust to the people, who give a value to that property and security m its possession. The Homstead Act should be worked m such a spirit that the best land (and not the worst as at present) might.be thrown open to the sons of Colonists and others who might wish to settle. Progressive taxation , of property would cause the large proprietor to contribute his fair proportion to the relief of the public burden, and prevent the land falling into the hands of a few. Mandood Suffrage with a residence qualification and sufficient checks to prevent its abuse I louk upon as being just m principle and politic m practice, Triennial Parliament as a necessary check on Representatives. At this crisis, when the schemes of the land ring seem about to h a . realised, all men of liberal opinions should sink niinor considerations, and bind themselves together to return none but men of similar views, m order to secure the lands of the Colony for the people ; and on that platform I .offer myself as your representative. , JAMES CUNNINGHAM. Thompson, Secretary and Collector for the year, 1879-80, and to whom all Rates 1 and Arears are to be paid, on demand, or on Saturday the 6th, and 13th September, at the Town Board Office.
