THE BATTLE CRY.
Sir, — As I was riding near the Whatawbata bush, I wag saluted by the familliar cry, " Hurrah ! vote for Grey." Bedad, ses I, there is another of the ould man's supporters. I'll speake to him, but, on looking round, from whenoe the voice came, I could see no ono, so, I turned my horses head again for the pub, when I was again brought, by, " Vote for Grey ! Vote for Grey, hurrah ! " yet, I could see no one. I, again turned my horse, but ( kept my head half- turned, and just took a squint, like, at the place I thought the voice came from, when, sure enough, "Vote for Grey," came shrill and loud, " Hurrah, hurrah," from an ould Sydney cockatoo, up m a tree. What will we get uext? We shall have the Auckland Central Committee bringing over some Australian Laughing Jackasses, to take up the cry, *' Hurrah, for Grey." Could they not send one to Wellington. It would be au immense saving to the country, as he would not require so much sugar as the other thing, and if he did not say his lesson properly, we could stop his allowance. — I am, &c, A Traveller.
