The Waipa District Roads.— To our Alexandra Correspondent is due some apology, that his letter of the 18th inst., m reply to an attack by some other correspondent, on a previous communication, urging the construction of one particular road ovor another m the Upper Waipa district, is only now published, lie must blame the elections .and the long speeches, whioh have crowded out, not only hia, but other interesting communications, on local subjects. The question of opening up the Waipa river district with roads, is one, however, which should not be forgotten at the present time, and should be urged upon candidates by electors interested, indeed candidates with any knowledge or care for the requirements of that part of the district, should have no need of being reminded of such a want. We have consistently urged that the road from. Ngaruawahia to Alexandra was a fitting work for the Colonial Government to undertake, for many reasons. The people of that part of the district are little advantaged by the present railway construction, or any that is likely to be undertaken m their time, and the work is beyond the means and power of the local boards. We think they have a fair claim on the colony, that this main-trunk line should be formed at colonial expense, and then left to them to maintain. The Waipa River district, if opened up by a good road, would prove as attractive to settlement, and as reproductive a 8 the Pukerimu side ef the Delta. The land iB good, but want of communcation such as this portion of the district has suffered from, would keep liaek the most fertile land m the world. Mb Hoose, as will be seen by advertisement elsewhere, is determined to Jcontest the seat for Waipa. • Messrs HctnTer & Nolan have a sale at the Papakura Yards on Wednesday next. Hamilton Horse Sale. — Mr J. S. Buckland will hold a sale of horse stock to-day at Gwynne's Hotel, Hamilton The Cambridge Cattle Sale takes place on Tuesday next. Baroains. — Mr N. R. Cox will soon move into his new premises corner of Hood and Victoria-streets, Hamilton, and will give the public the benefit of starting with a new stock by holding meantime a clearing out sale of his present stock at very reduced prices or giving cash purchasers the benefit of a discount of three shillings m the £. As Mr Cox has determined to give up keeping certain classes of goods after removal, he will sell his present stock of such articles regardless of cost. Mr Cox's advertisement will be found elsewhere. The people of the town of Ngaruawahia decliue to have the Public Libraries Act brought into force m their district. The result of the polling was a vote of 32 to 21, giving a majority of 11 against the adoption of the Act. The Waipa Election. —We have received more than one up-country correspondent's letter, reporting second or subsequent meetings of the several candidates. Our endeavour has been, to give a full report of one address from each candidate, and only, after that, to report questions and answers, at subsequent meetings, where new matter ts introduced. Uur space will not enable us to do more. As it is, general news has been, necessarily, crowded out to do this much. At Kihikihi, on Thursday night, Mr McMinn received a vote of thanks, an amendment proposing want of confidence, proposed by Mr Ross, and seconded by Mr Moncrieff, being withdrawn amid cries of' " no, no," and stamping of feet, the vote of thanks being carried with applause. ' Mr McMinn said, at this stage, that a report was gaining ground that he would not go through, that he would back out, m favour of some other party. He wished that report contradicted — It was only a ruse. He meant to go on, and * see it out to the end. Mr McMinn and Mr Roche address the electors, at Pukerimu, to-day. Mr Whitaker addresses the electors of Alexandra, to-night, and those of Hamilton, on Monday. Mr Cunningham appears at Harapepeto-day, at Ngaruawahia on Tuesday, and Hamilton on Wednesday next. The Cattle Show Committee meet at 10 a.m. tho same day, after which there will be a meeting of the Managing Committee. The Anniversary of Hamilton was celebrated last night by a dinner at Pearce's Commercial Hotel, to wliich more than forty gentlemen sat down. Captain Steele occupied the chair, and Captain Beer e th c vice-chair. The dinner was placed on the table m Host Pearce's usual good style, and reflected creditably on the cuisine of the Commercial, and upheld the well known character of the landlord, for the excellence of his taste and judgment m such matters. When the cloth was cleared, the usual loyal toasts were succeeded by many others, and the company separated, at a late hour, after havin" spent a very enjoyable evening. Our report is necessarily held over until Tuesday.
