Slß,— l have lately noticed that several District Boards are going in for an amalgamation of offices and advertise for some one capable of discharging the duties of secretary, collector and valuer. Although it is quite possible that persons may be found capable of discharging the three offices in one, at the same time, nevertheless, I consider it contrary to the spirit of the 4th clause of the Rating Act, and I also consider it unfair that a valuer should also be a collector. Boards might very well combine jbhe offices of secretary and collector, but the valuer should be independant of all office authority, and be an experienced person if possible. I suppose before long we will have , County Councils following this example, and requesting the Road Boards to lend their combined officer in turn, and so save the majority the expense of even having a clerk. — I am, &c, Ratepayee.
