ALEXANDRA.
August 4. Parliamentary; doings in Wellington have been quite a relief to our intolerable dulness, by giving us something to talk about. Politics are now discussed in all directions and our members' ears' should tingle. Who is to be our next member is pretty sure to greet one wherever he goes, already soveial are spoken of as likely to be brought forward, and others as wishing to be.
The King natives at Kopua and Hikurangi were perfectly jubilant at the news of the defeatof the Ministry, or rather of Sit- George Grey. They are quite confident that the cool treatment he received from the King at the late Kopua meeting was tho cause of his defeat, and rejoiced accordingly. I have never before ' seen so great an interest displayed in election matters as at present and should we have a contested election with candidates for the Grey and Opposition iatert-sts, there will doubtless be a very keen election. As showing the anxiety of our town folks for a little excitement of ever so mild a kind was exemplified on Saturday last, when the Chairman and a number of our ratepayers (and your own as reporter anxious for work) assembled at the Public Hall to appoint a Trustee for the Alexandra Township Hoad Board. Mr Sage was duly proposed and seconded as Chairman of the meeting and proceeded to open the proceedings by reading the advertisement in the Waikato 'Jimas convening the meeting. On being road it was only then discovered the meeting was not called for that day but Saturday next tho 9th inst. to the surprise of all. Of course the meeting had to be adjourned, but as it was absolutely necessary some business must be done, it wus proposed aud duly seconded that the Chairman of the Board, Mr Aubin do shout for those assembled which was carried unanimously, and the meeting dispersed at the heels of the Chairman to the Alexandra Hotel, and imbibed accordingly. There is no native news of any importance, a!l are busy preparing their lands for crops. Tawhiao is now a grandfather, his youngest son Te Nairoa's wife having given birth to a son at Hikurangi last week, of which His Majesty is exceedingly proud.—Own Correspondent.
