Hamilton, August r >. (Before H, W. Northcroffc, Esq., R.M). DOG TAX. Henry Hadfield charged with allowing his dog to be at large without a collar was fined 10<5 aud costs. Richard Gillet charged with a similar offence, pleaded guilty and was fined Is and costs. assault. Edward Wilson wan charged with assaulting Jacob Bauer by striking him in the face on the 28bh nit. Mr O'Neill appeared for the complainant and Mr Hay for the defendant. Complainant stated he was in the Hamilton Hotel on that day when defendant came in and accused him of having made some remarks about a christening. Defendant called hi m a smart foreigner and an adjective skunk, and said ho ought to be put out ot the settlement. Plaintiff replied he would be in the settlement after him, Defendant said if he told any adjective lies about him he'd smash his face and then made a blow at. his face. The barman interfered and saved him. To Mr Hay : Wilson struck rao in the face with his clenched fist. Mr North was in the room and must have seen it, I did not call him an adjective liar. By Mr O'Neill: The barman could not have seen the blow struck. The witness North was not present, proof of service of subpoena was given, and a warrant issued for the apprehension of the absent witness, who was in Auckland. The case was adjourned till next Court day. In the civil cases, all but two defendants eonfessed judgment.
