RESIDENT MAGISTRATES' COURT.

Hamilton, July 17. (before H. W» Northcroft, Esq., R.M.) Stephen Homej a boy aged between 14 and lo years, was charged with embezzling eight shillings, the property of his employer, Mr A. H. Maunder. In reply to the Court, the boy said, " he Was guilty, and that he used the money to pay his fare to Auckland, where his father* and mother resided. Mr Mauudei used to growl at him without cause, and that was why he ran away. Sergeant McGovern said, some eighteen months ago, Mr Maunder got the boj from the Industrial School, m Auckland, and during that time he ran away severa times and caused a great deal of trouble His Worship said, he thought it was i «-reatpity that the present charge wai brought before the Court, as the boy hac ' made his way to Auckland, and waa witt his parents« i

Sergeant McGovern said, the Polico were not tho informants m the matter, The information was laid by Mr Maunder, who now regretted that he had taken such a hasty step, .and would bo glad to withdraw the charge. His Worship said, he would dismiss the case, and order that the boy be taken back to the Industrial School. EFFECTS CF DRINK. Walter Luckman, on remand from Cambridge, charged with being of unsound mind (delirium tremens), appeared before the Court. Sergeant McGovern said, he was glad to state that the prisoner was now quite recovered. Ho had been m custody of the Hamilton Police since the 10th inst. In reply to the Court, the Scrgt. said, the prisoner was m cxisto&y m the month of January last, for a similar offence, for pome 12 days. Tho accused was a peacable man, and he (the Sergeant) thought his only failing was drink. His Worship remarked that, he-thought men of this class should be sent to prison, and gave the prisoner a severe lecture. He would discharge him on the present occasion, but it was very lucky for the prisoner that the Sergeant was present, and spoke m his favor. DRUNKENNESS. John Nash pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness. Sergeant McGoyem said, the prisoner was apprehended late on the night of the loth inst., and all day yesterday he (tho prisoner) was quite delirious, and unfit to be taken before the Court.

The prisoner said, it was seldom he got so drunk, but when he did, he went completely off his chump. Discharged Avith a caution.
