CAMBRIDGE.
Monday, July 14. At Mr Buokland' s horse salo, held here on Saturday, there was a fair attendance of buyers. Bidding Avas spirited, and most of tho stock offered (principally draught) fetched good prices; one pair of greys fetched £64. The Native Lands Court is still sitting, but may be over m a few days or prolonged for a fortnight. The natives, encamped m tents, must feel the cold Aveather severely. Last night wo had a very sharp frost. Some pictures, m oil and pencil, were exhibited last Aveek m Mr Hammond's shop windoAv ; they were executed by Mr S. R. Kessing. A copy of " Love's young dream" Avas very fairly represented ; but the "Lifo Boat Avas less faulty. The pencil drawing, " Going to bed," Avas excellent ; and some brackot hangings, painted for Major Hay, on satin, from lillies from Major Wilson's garden, Avere exquisite m design and execution. A life-size oil-painting of tho bust of a Maori Avoman, tatooed and Avith mat on her head, is very Avell dono. They all testify that Mr Keosing is an amateur of j no mean merit. — Own Correspondent.
