TAWHIAO REPUDIATES SYMPATHY WITH TE WHITI.

Last evening, says Saturday's 'Star', a special messenger from Tawhiao eaUed at the 'Star' office and f urnished a statement which tho King desired to have published for the information of Europeans. The messenger Avas present at a meeting held at Te Kopua at 8 o'clock on Tuesday evening, and m compliance Avith Tawhiao' s -wishes rode through to Ohaupo early yesterday morning m time to catch the first train to Auckland. The meeting was held at the house of Mr A. Thompson, afc Te Kopua, where Sk George Grey and .the Ministerial party took up their quarters during the late meeting. There were present : Tawhiao, Te Ngakau, Mamitriri, Te Wahanui, the great Ngatimaniapoto Chief, Whitiora one of the fighting chiefs, who was a , leader, at Rangiriri, Tipene, a chief who. took a very prominent part m the King movement, Papukowhatu, another influential chief, and about forty other leading men. Europeans were not permitted to be present. \ The proceedings commenced about 8 o'clock, and a report, 'of which the foUowis a translation, has been furnished us for pubUcation : — Tawhiao stood up and said ; What is the cause of this trouble between Grey and Te Whiti, and this catching of mon at Taranaki ? My heart is exceedingly dark, over this trouble, lest it shoidd be said that I am the cause of it. -Tv Potuhi then rose ahd said: I do not understand the cause ef this evil Avork. It rests Avith Te Whiti. It is a work or confusion, but ifc does not emenate from Tawhiao, If Grey and Te Whiti desire to persue this work, they must confine ifc to their own place. They must not bring it to Waikato to compUcate us. Let there be no trouble here. It is for Sheehan and Te Whiti to settle that. Te Wahanui said : I havo no word to say about this trouble. It is for Sheehan and Te Whiti to settle this.
