WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The regular monthly meeting of the above Council was held at Mr Delaney's Hotel, Ohaupo, on Tuesday, the 10th of June at 10 o'clock a.m. Present: Crs. Germann, (Chairman), Sloane, Buttle, Hadfield, Aubiri, Cunningham, Corboy and Steele. The minutes of last meeting having read and confirmed, the correspondence written and received since the 14th of May was read and considered. SUBSIDY. A communication was received from the Treasury informing the Council that the sum of £555 4s 3d had been paid to the credit of the County Fund at the Bank of New Zealand, Te Awamutu, this being amount of subsidy for half-year ending 30th June, 1879. The amount of general rates collected m the County for the year ending 31st March, 1878 was £1619 6s 2d, but of this £93 Is 8d was m excess of limit of Is m the £, reducing the' amount for half-year to £763 2s 3d, the Counties Act having only come into full operation m "Waipa on the 12th of August, 1878. 43-365 th of the above amount was divisible among the road boards, leaving £673 4s 3d, payable to the County. The further deduction of £118 towards maintenance of Auckland Hospital reduced the sum actually paid to the County to £555 4s 3d as stated above. A sum of £1 had also been paid to the credit of tha County, being amount of flues, &c, collected at the Resident Magistrate's Court, Hamilton, during the month ended i 31st March, 1879. ' TE RORE FERRY. A letter was reeeiyed from the Chairman of the Pirongia District Highway Board, calling attention to the fact that for the past twelve months nothing had been received by that Board' from the Waipa County towards the support of the Te Rore Perry. The Clerk was instructed to refer them to the Government, the said ferry not having been put under the control of the County at present. SLAUGHTERING CATTLE. A letter was read from the Mayor of Hamilton, complaining that butchers, to* i avoid the fees chargeable at the General Abattoir, and also to avoid inspection, wore killing outside the boundaries of the Borough, m the Waipa County, and requesting the Council to take steps to prevent the slaughtering of cattle within a certain distance of Hamilton. This Council not having brought the Slaughter House Act m force, the Clerk was instructed to reply, that they could take no action m the matter. COUNTY SEAT,. No notice having been taken of an order which had been forwarded to Mr Teutenberg, Auckland, for a seal for the County, the Clerk was instructed to request Messrs Upton and Co. to procure one. BY-LAWS. It was proposed by Cr. Steele and seconded by Cr. Sloane, ".That the resolution passed at a special meeting of this Council, held at Ohaupo, May 14th, adopting a code of by-laws come into force on the 7th day of July.— Carried. Tho^ Building Committee were authorised to procure all necessary furniture for the Council Chamber, which will be ready for occupation m about a fortnight. Tenders had been called for fencing m the ground on which the Council Chamber is being built, but as anlj one had been received, and that was jonsidered much too high, the matter was ieft over. DISTRIBUTION OF SUBSIDY, On tho motion of Cr. Buttle, seconded jy Cr. Reynolds, the Clerk was ordered to H'cpare a statement showing amounts ivhich had beon paid to tho several ridings —that the Finance Committee might ipportiou the subsidy now received iinongst the various highway boards. COMMITTEES. In accordance with by-law No. 2. the bllowing Councillors were appointed nembors of the respective committees : — finance and Assessment : Crs. Germnim, lloane, and Buttle; County Property: «rs. Aubinj Buttle* and Stqele Printing

and Advertising : Crs. Hadfield, Cunningham and Reynolds; Memorial* and Petitions: Cr«. Corboy, Cunningham and 2?i c?i RoadB and Bridges : Crs. Hadaelcl, Sloane, and Reynolds. ENGTNEEB FOR COUNTY. xi. Tl^ Clerlc was instructed to write to the Chairmen of the several Highway .Boards m the county, asking for an expression of opinion as to the advisability of the Council appointing an Engineer for the county, whose services shall be at the disposal of all the Highway Boards. The salary to be paid out of the several funds. TERMINATION OF ROAD BOARD "SEAR. It being the general opinion of the Council that the arrangement now m force, by which the financial year ends on the 31st of March, and the Trustees year of office on the 30th June was objectionable, a proposition was made by Cr. Steele, that the Chairman should draw up and send to the Colonial Secretary, a memorial, praying that an alteration be made at the next Session of Parliament. Cr. Sloane seconded the motion, which was agreed to, and the Clerk was instructed to communicate with adjacent counties, asking their co-operation m the matter. The following accounts were passed £ and ordered to bo paid : — Pukeknra * District Highway Board, £50 ; Whitaker, Whatawhata Perry, £3; Taylor, onaccount of Council Chambers, £75 ; Potty Cash, £5 ; Clerk's salary, 11 £5 ; journey to Hamilton and Te Rore, £i ss ; extra Clerical work, £5. This was all the business.
