They are much concerned about the affair at Taranaki, and nave addressed the | Governor and Premier on the subject As will be seen they strongly - advise cautious treatment. The following ia a translation of tha message which w*s sent away on Friday :—" The embroilment at Taranaki. —To the Governor and Premier :•— 1 his is au expression of opinion from the chiefs of Ngapuhi aud the Rarawa concerning the disturbance which seems imminent at Twranaki. JLet your management of that difficulty be geutle and patient, so tnat concord aad peace may prevail between the two peoples, tliH Europeans and the Maoris, and .«o that no biuuie shall be cast upon this Government. Because of the iitiu. aud .uiscrete conduct of the Premier and tho Native Minister with the Meeting at Te Kopoa, Rewi Maniapoto has come with pleasure to Auckland, and we are working at regulations by which peace shall be secured for .both peoples. Let the same method be pursued now, Lat there be concord a ijougst us, that the word of the Psalmist may be fulfilled, —' Behold how good aud pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together m un\ty.' That h all from us.—Hori lavviti, M.H.R., Mai hi P. Kawita Timoti Puhipi, Rev. Wirema Pomare, S. D. Taiwimnga, Eakei, vViremu Kaitaia, Itenata Pure Rato Whakaica, Nui Hure, Poka te rtibi, and all the chief.; of Ngapuhi and, of Rarawa."
