TE AWAMUTU.
June 6. The monthly meeting of the Rangiaohia Highway Board was held here on Tuesday last. The public pound of the district^ which was erected by the Highway Board about six months ago, at the earnest request of a large majority of ratepayers, is at last to be utilized, as by a recent Gazette, it has been taken over* by, and placed under full control of the Board. The County Council having declined the offer of the Hon. the Colonel Secretary to undertake its management. It must be consoling to those settlers who are being annoyed by the depredations of stray cattle, and fugitive horses secretly intent on fresh fields and pastures new, to learn that the new pound keeper, Mr John Potter, will be happy to find, within the scanty arena of his skeleton square, accomodation for all animals handed over, m due form, to his safe keeping.
